For a long time I've been thinking about switching this site over to Wordpress, and the more I think about it the more undecided I get :O I simply can't make up my mind.
I installed a copy of WP here on this domain and has been playing with it for the past week. It's almost completely done, check it out here.

Thanks to Melissa's awesome tutorials on dynamic sidebars I even managed to make... well, a dynamic sidebar ;) I'm rather pleased with how the WP site turned out, but I still hesitate to make the switch.

I love WP and it's versatility, I love all the nifty plugins that comes with it and the ease of having everything in a user panel instead of having to open up an ftp-client every time I want to change something. And because of that I can update all my stuff from anywhere = big plus. Having WP would surely make me inclined to blog more too since I feel kinda left out with FanUpdate.

On the other hand WP is more than anything a blogging tool, but 90% of the content here are static pages with pixelart. Why would I use WP to build a pixel site? FanUpdate + Notepad should be more than enough.

Gaah! Can't decide, help!!
(This is really getting ridiculous...)

Yikes, I haven't updated in forever
My only excuse is that I've been really busy with work and other things, and I haven't really felt like doing anything online for a while. I've only updated my Swedish blog simply because it's so much easier for me to write in my own language. I don't have to think as hard as I have to when I'm writing here ^__^;;

I'll try get my act together again now, and start hanging out at my forums too. Promise! :)

Webdesigner maybe?

Maybe I should explain my work situation first:
Both me and Markus are freelancers and we "borrow" an office from Gem, a small local advertising agency. Basically they have a spare office and they like us, so we can use it for free :) But we get most of our jobs from them since we're "in house" and we share their equipment so it's almost like we're employed by them anyway.

Now they've even put our photos on their contact page. And Johan, the Art Director on Gem, gave us some fancy titles I have no idea how to translate (Web creator? Are there such people?). It sounds good, but I would have settled for plain and simple "illustrator"... :P
I consider myself an illustrator/graphic designer and that has been my main career goal. I like making websites too, but I've always planned on keeping that as merely a hobby. I believe I'm a better artist than a coder.

But then again, these past weeks I've found myself slowly drifting into the web designing world. Apparently I'm the only one in the building with good understanding of Wordpress, so every time someone needs WP installed or a custom theme they throw the client at me. And I actually like it :)
It's kinda fun to make themes and play with tags instead of "just" drawing. And I think I've learned more about coding on these past projects than during the whole past year.
Maybe I'll become a web designer anyway? You know, I have to live up to my fancy title 8)

This Wednesday was my birthday, I turned 21 *cough* 26! :P And last Sunday, on the 22nd my dog Zaphod turned 4. Our birthdays are just 3 days apart :)

Zaphod got a dried pig ear and I got flowers, cake and loads of presents: a new spring jacket, earrings, chocolat and a bunch of other stuff.
Markus had the best gift though: one day of playing trophy wife *lol* That means that yesterday (since it's easier to do on a weekend) I didn't have to do or pay for anything. I got breakfast in bed, then we went shopping in town, we ate lunch out at a nice restaurant and he paid for everything and carried the bags :D I picked out two t-shirts, a really pretty red dress and some purple arm warmers. He was prepared to buy me more stuff but I felt that was my limit... Then he bought a second cake and some snacks for the evening. It was a truly great day!

And the ever so lovely Hev made me this gift:

How cute is that? With Zaphod and everything! Thank you Hev

I also want to say THANK YOU to all the lovely people who wished me a happy birthday on The Qbee, Vegetarian Option and the Fanlistings MB. Love you guys

Hey, look - a new layout again :P This time Rockwitch has a pixel tattoo.
I've been watching Miami Ink a lot lately and has felt really inspired by all the gorgeous art those guys make. I can't believe how talented they are! I love tattoos, especially the vintage ones, and now want one of my own more than ever. If I only had the money... and the ability to make up my mind about a motif :hmm:

Anyway, this layout has been tested in Firefox, IE7, Opera and Safari and should be ok in most resolutions. But if you see something weird, please smack me in the head and let me know ;)

I seriously can't believe I'm posting this.
I've been dolling for what, 5 years? Possibly more. And I've always used nothing but other people's bases. Not that it's a bad thing, but being able to make my own bases has been a dream of mine ever since I started dolling. I've always wanted to be able to say "base is mine" when posting a doll instead of the usual "base by XYZ". I think it's a pride thing. Like, I want my stuff to be original and all mine. And if I use someone else's base my dolls aren't.
My problem was, and still is actually, that I have no "feeling" at all for human anatomy. I can draw a dog in 20 different poses, but not humans. I just don't get my own species *lol*
I never ever thought I'd come to the point where I'm actually releasing my own doll base, BUT NOW IT'S HAPPENING!!

This, my friends, is Ponny.
I was going to make an entry for Odyrah's/Ariens My Little Pony contest and had a specific pose in mind but I couldn't really find anything suitable. After a few days of searching I was all "screw it, I'll draw one myself then" and well... I actually did it! It took me a whole day, but it was well worth it :cheer: Her pose is inspired by some first generation pony poses, like Starshine and Windy.

RULES:

- All edits allowed, but you still have to credit me.
- Link back to either rockwitch.net or gabonica.deviantart.com - but I prefer rockwitch.net if you don't mind ;)

Tehee, sorry for the drivelling. I'm just a wee bit excited that I actually finished this :D

My computer died yesterday. It froze completely and then it it wouldn't even start up. Had to reinstall the whole thing to make it work :hmm: But it had been running smoothly for 1½ years so I guess it shouldn't be to much of a surprise. We all have to reinstall sooner or later.

But there's no damage done. I have backups of all my important stuff (photos, unfinished pixels etc.) so nothing is lost *phew*
It's just kinda time-consuming installing all the programs again. I've spent most of today searching for CD's and waiting for updates to download. It took Windows almost 2 hours(!) to finish downloading all the updates that has come since my CD was made.
Now I've finally got Firefox and internet running. I'm looking around for add-ons right now, and I just found this awesome theme :) Who wants clean and stylish when you can get the cuteness of Mario!?

And thank god for Delicious btw! I was a bit bummed about loosing all my bookmarks and then I remembered I've saved them all to my Delicious account :D I knew that community would prove to be useful some day.
So, that's what I've been doing. Nursing my poor computer back to health.

It's been ages since I last did a vector piece and figured a really überly cute self-portrait would be fun to make :)
It's supposed to be me and my dog Zaphod, in some sort of chibi-like way. I'm not a huge fan of anime/manga, so I don't think this will be a habit... I just wanted to try something different.
And I've also realised I really really need more vector practice, I'm so rusty and clumsy around Flash it's embarrassing

Happy belated New Year everyone! I hope you all had a lovely holiday season :)
I survived Christmas this year too, but it was a close call  I've spent every weekend during the past month driving back and forth between relatives, there's been birthdays and early Christmases and parties and... jeez. Me and Markus live almost smack down in the middle of our "social circle" with all our friends and relatives scattered out in other towns around us = long hours in the car every time we visit someone.
Now I'm all exhausted from the running back and forth. I love spending time with my family (and Markus' family) and friends - but it's just been crazy this Christmas. It's so good to finally have a weekend alone, just me and my boys, with no parties or people or anything. Really it is.

Now I actually got time to photograph and upload all my lovely Christmas cards! I don't think I've ever gotten this many cards, taking part in the Qbee card exchange was awesome!
A huge THANK YOU to all great people who sent me cards and little gifts!!

All my cards! 19 in total.

From Anna Kirstin, Hev and Mendifae. I got some stickers from Mendifae too, but I forgot to include them into the photo. Stupid me. Thank you anyway, they're really pretty!

Heather, Meghan and Cristina. Meghan sent a cute ornament too, thank you so much!

Ashley, Kim and Bubs

Jessica, Sarah and Miranda

Cyberdelia and Hanna

Cards from some lovely people over at TheFanlistings.org. Kryz, Kya and Valorie/Morbid Romantic. Kya also sent a cute little froggie charm, thank you!

And finally a card from my mother and one from Zaphod's breeder. They always send photo cards of their dogs.

Today is the annual Quilting Bee blog day!
A day for all the members to praise and brag over the best online club ever :D

I was going to write an introduction to the club, but I realised that what I really want to talk about this year is the thing that amazes me the most about the Q*bee, and what I also think is the main reason for its success: the Q*bee spirit.

I hang around several other online forums and message boards, and many of them have the typical problems. You know... spamming, flaming, cliques, elitism. That sort of stuff.
On some forums you're almost afraid to open your mouth because you know that if you say one word wrong the others will eat you alive. And some topics you can't even discuss without things going completely overboard.

But The Q*bee is drama free!
No matter what kind of drama is going on on the rest of the internet, you won't notice it in the Q*bee. It's like an online sanctuary, a place where you'll find nothing but fun and friendship.
A good example is a thread we had about the American election. We all know how heated political debates can get and how fast people can turn against each other, but nothing like that happened. It was completely friendly. Amazing really.
It's like there's some sort of silent agreement between all members that we don't fight in the beehive. Like the club is to important to us to ruin it with petty eDrama.

That's what I love the most about the club. It doesn't matter if your website isn't perfect, if you can't pixel or if your English is a bit wonky - nobody will laugh and/or think any less of you. You can ask any silly question and there will always be people there to help you. And a lot of the members aren't even in it for the pixels, they're in it just for the lovely community. No need for super talent, just be your lovely self and you'll be welcomed with open arms.
Joining the bee is almost like stepping into a room with a bunch of puppies. As soon as you enter we all start climbing all over you, sniff your hands and nibble your socks going "Whee! New friend! Come play with us!" :cheer:

Seriously people, if you're not bees already, come join us.
It's the best online community by far, you won't regret it ;)

Meet the snow-witch

Autumn is over and it's about time to change the theme here. So I drew a cute little snow-witch to go with the season :)

And after almost 2 years of lolling around moving stuff back and forth with no clue whatsoever I think I've finally figured out how to organize things around here. With my art/pixels I mean. I don't want to put my pixels with my art because quite frankly I don't know if I consider my pixels "art". It's more like a cute hobby or something.
So... now there's a gallery where I put my drawings and other artsy stuff - and a pixel section for easy access to the dolls and what not. And damn it, I'm not going to change my mind again! :argh:

SocialVibe

A few days ago I discovered SocialVibe. I guess some of you have already heard about this, but it's new to me so I'm gonna talk about it anyway :)
SocialVibe is an online community that allows its users to get sponsored by companies and help raise funds for charity. It's free and simple and a great idea.

How it works:

First I pick my charity. And there are lots to choose from, everything from endangered species to breast cancer to poverty. You can only have one charity, but you can change it as often as you like.

Then I pick my sponsor = the company that will actually pay the money. You can have two sponsors at a time, but like with charities you can change them whenever you want.

I get a banner to put on my blog/facebook/myspace page etc.
For every place I put the banner I earn points. I can also earn points by referring new member, visit the SocialVibe forum and uploading photos among other things. There are many ways to earn points, but the main way is by showing off your banner.
And here comes the good part: those points turn into money that my sponsor give my chosen charity!

It's like a win-win situation for everyone involved. My charity of choice gets money, my sponsors get advertising on a huge number of websites all over the place and I feel good for helping out. There are stuff for the users to win too, like drawings and contests and such, but the main focus is to allow ordinary people like me to give a little back.

I chose the WWF as my cause since I feel strongly about the environment and animals.
I then chose MAC and Ed Hardy as my sponsors. I like make-up and know MAC doesn't test on animals and Ed Hardy is a really cool rock n' roll designer and I figured it would be nice to be associated with him *lol*

Does this really help anyone?

"SocialVibe allocates a sizable majority of our monthly income to charitable donations. Points earned by members determine the amount of our monthly charity funds that will be given to each charity partner. We currently donate to charities on a quarterly basis. As of July 2008, we have donated over $90,000 to our partner charities."

^ from the SocialVibe website.
If you check out the charities on the SocialVibe page you can see how many supporters your cause have and how much money has been raised. As for my cause it says that 25 000 members has raised 11 300$ for the WWF. There is a goal to raise 3000$ in 19 days, and there is already 1800$ raised.

Sure, there are no way for me to check if they actually give any money, but I don't think it would be such a huge community if it was all a scam. I think it would be discovered pretty fast.
And there's a link to SocialVibe on WWF's own site. I'm gonna take that as an indication that they like it and that they do get something out of it, why else would they have their link up?

Oh, and you get a pink ball!

When you raise 2000 points you can request a pink ball. It's an actual ball, pink with a white star, that you get sent to your home. I only have 560 points so I haven't got mine yet, but you can see photos of other users with theirs balls on the website :)

Now go join! :D Btw, if you sign up by clicking on the banner up there I will earn lots of points 8)

Yay, my favourite holiday is here! :D It's Halloween, Samhain or as we call it in Sweden - All Saint's Eve.
Me and Markus will go stay at his parents (who happen to live in one of the most beautiful parts of this country). There will be no pumpkins or trick-or-treating since we don't have that tradition here, but it will be plenty of time out in the woods with Zaphod and a party with my friends on saturday. Now I'm off for the weekend, stay safe and I'll see you on sunday!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
(Btw, the first snow is falling here right now :) It's very pretty)

I'm feeling a bit stressed right now. I have a million things to do, of which some are rather urgent, and I can't seem to get my lazy ass to do anything even remotely useful. I sit down to make some illustrations on the computer and end up doodling pixels. I open up my inbox to reply to some mails but since I don't know what to write (and it's not some deep-going important mails either, just casual friendly messages) I go play Heroes of Might and Magic instead. I have lots of irl stuff to do too, but I just sit by the computer all the time so nothing happens *sigh* And I just spent 1 whole hour wandering around Snark :S
The only good thing I've done today is spending 2 hours walking off-road in the woods with the dog. We walked over a mountain so it was steep and rocky too. Great exercise, thank god I have someone who drags me outside everyday.

The diagnosis is simple: I'm a slacker and a procrastinator who needs an energy-injection  Ok, no more playing around. I have work to do! This is my to-do list for the week:

Call my boss about some papers I need from her (first thing tomorrow!)
Finish 3 fanlistings that I've been approved to run (i.e. make layout + buttons + upload everything to the internet)
Reply to every single mail in my inbox
Clean the apartment
Do the laundry
Finish a whole bunch of illustrations I've been commissioned to do
Make a Halloween treat for the Trick-or-treat activity at The Qbee - done!
Fix some things around this place

And I wont play any more Heroes until I'm done, damn it.

EDITED 25/10

I’m feeling a bit stressed right now. I have a million things to do, of which some are rather urgent, and I can’t seem to get my lazy ass to do anything even remotely useful. I sit down to make some illustrations on the computer and end up doodling pixels. I open up my inbox to reply to some mails but since I don’t know what to write (and it’s not some deep-going important mails either, just casual friendly messages) I go play Heroes of Might and Magic instead. I have lots of irl stuff to do too, but I just sit by the computer all the time so nothing happens *sigh* And I just spent 1 whole hour wandering around Snark
The only good thing I’ve done today is spending 2 hours walking off-road in the woods with the dog. We walked over a mountain so it was steep and rocky too. Great exercise, thank god I have someone who drags me outside everyday.

The diagnosis is simple: I’m a slacker and a procrastinator who needs an energy-injection Ok, no more playing around. I have work to do! This is my to-do list for the week:

Call my boss about some papers I need from her (first thing tomorrow!)

Finish 3 fanlistings that I’ve been approved to run (i.e. make layout + buttons + upload everything to the internet)

Reply to every single mail in my inbox

Clean the apartment

Do the laundry

Finish a whole bunch of illustrations I’ve been commissioned to do

Make a Halloween treat for the Trick-or-treat activity at The Qbee—done!

Fix some things around this place

And I wont play any more Heroes until I’m done, damn it.

I've done something I've never done before - submitting my site for a review :) I've always been really sensitive when it comes to critique and people telling me what to do, so this is a huge step for me. But I think I need it.
I feel that for the past years I've been doing the same thing over and over again and I think feedback from someone on the outside would do me good. But that seems kinda hard to get so I've submitted this site to Petshopgirls Reviews. I want an honest opinion and I know Rhiannon will give me just that.

Just hope the poor girl won't die when she sees all my spelling errors and poor english grammar...

Here's the latest dolls added to the site. All where made for activities/contests on various sites, except the last one.

Two self portraits made for the welcome activity at GLAM!. Everybody made a doll of themselves and it was put together in a gigant collaboration :)

This is Gladys Nagita. She's a model I made for the Flawed Perfection Modeling Agency contest. It was like Top Model with dolls :) Gladys was inspired by a friend of mine from Uganda, I wanted to make a black doll for a change too. Sadly I missed a deadline and got kicked out, so I only came in 9th place. But it was fun while it lasted anyway.

Me as a rockstar 8) Made for the Rockstar Me contest at The Enchanted Glade. Of course I made myself into an 80's glam rocker!

Holy tap-dancing christ... I won the Site Of The Month award over att Silindor!!
And the weird thing is that noone told me, I haven't got an email or anything. I discovered it when I checked my webstat earlier today and saw that I had a high number of visitors coming from Silindor. I tought it was weird since we're not affiliates or anything so I vent to their site and WOW! There it was, front page and all!

"Site of the Month for September 2008 goes to Rockwitch! This dollers style is crisp and refreshing. Her site is definitely worth visiting!"

Tee hee, this is the first time I've ever won anything like that. I've won pixeling contests before, but never contests like this when you don't have to send anyting in or participate in any way. I haven't applied or anything. And it not just any crappy site either - it's the awesome Haven of Silindor!
Thank you so much ladies  This really made my month!

I have a thing for fanlistings, directories and cliques. I don't know why because in all honesty I find the whole thing a bit childish, but still I like joining them and putting their little buttons on my site. I also like seeing what fanlistings/cliques other people have joined, it's a bit like "show me your joined listings and I'll tell you who you are". Heck, I even like creating fanlistings myself!

These past days I've been randomly surfing around looking for some directories to join, and found some nice places too, but I've also noticed something that bugs me a little. On more than one site I've found a rule saying "no doll sites please".

Um... what? What's wrong with doll sites?
Ok, if you're thinking of those hideous glittery palace dolls people used to make in the 90's (and are very rarely seen today), and those pointless sites with nothing but huge dollmakers filled with graphics they've probably stolen from somewhere else. But that's just one small part of the dolling world.
There are TONS of beautiful, unique, creative and personal dolling sites out there. Sites that any directory should be proud to have in their scrolls.

Sure, some doll sites have poorly coded/ugly layouts, but that goes for ALL types of sites. And besides, most directories have a rule saying you must have "decent layout and content". So you've already ruled out those places.
Saying "no doll sites" in your rules is like saying "no cat sites" or "no sites about knitting". Seriously, wtf? Is dolling really such a turn-off among some people? Or do you think that dolls = ugly 90's glitter dolls?

I'd like to know what you people outside the dolling world think when someone say that they make pixel dolls. What do you think of it? Do you even know what it is to begin with?

I'm going to advertise a brand new swedish doll/pixel forum that just opened :D
I haven't had anything to do with it, it's Malin and Rose who's behind it - but it's a good idea so I'm going to spread the word so to speak. So if you know swedish and is interested in pixeling you should go check it out:

It's named The Blue Room and has a music (mostly rock) theme going on, come join us! :)

Um... yeah. I got a little frustrated with the previous, left-aligned version.

I still haven't finished everything though. Some links aren't working yet, like "creative" up there. I have to re-do that whole page. Might be som missing images somewhere too I think.
But I will finish it as soon as possible! I just HAVE to sleep now

But please tell me what you think anyway, is this any better than before?

EDIT
*********************
Ok, it's all done now :) Just have to upload some more content, but everything works now.
